Self Care for the Holidays

What a special feeling the holiday season brings into our lives ! The Fall season is always my favorite time of the year.

Catching up on time with family, delicious foods and the intention of sharing traditions in our family events were big and full of fun.

I remember things changing as I got older, I still love the family gatherings but the stress of having to "keep up financially " with all of what of felt were obligations started to take its toll.

Starting in November the family would be going to parties and splitting time all over the place . It didn't end til New Years . Exhausting!

My tradition and program made me feel like I needed to do all these things to make everyone happy and give my energy away.

I'm not saying I don't like gift giving, but I also didn't like putting myself into a hole .

Monetarily and energetically.

Some of you may feel more comfortable in your home bubble and your and are resisting the urge to hermit. The following activity can help you find ways to balance your holiday time no matter what your feeling .

This post is about checking in with yourself each time your asked , feel like you have to, or feel a sense of obligation this season.

Ask yourself a few questions for each thing that make you feel stress

For example check in :

  • Every year I host thanksgiving at my house .

What about this event make me feel resistance ?

What do I enjoy about this event ?

What can I change this year to shift any resistance?

Do I want to keep things the same?

Here are some more examples :

  • I spend so much money on gift giving

  • There a people whom when I'm around the, I feel drained after ever visit.

  • I don't want to go visit anyone for the holidays .

  • I really don't enjoy the traditions set in place

Self care isn't always about spending money.

Self care is about being conscious where you spend your energy and whom.

Make the holiday stress free by reevaluating the stress causing traditions.

  • What you feel like your actually celebrating?

  • Are you caught up in the collective energy of consumerism ?

  • Are you creating more stress by doing and spending more than you have ?

Prepare yourself for what you want to happen by becoming aware of what is working and what not.

If you decide to make changes some people may feel resistance from you but communicate what your feeling so they will understand.

Lastly don't feel guilty for making changes. This is just a reminder that your actions are in alignment with your goals. It takes time to unlearn some of our behaviors and patterns. If you begin to feel this way find a few minutes to breathe and even journal as you understand what's happening.

Also put the devices away and be present with your people.
